Same spot, same fuel, same 40-gallon size. That’s a direct replacement. You don’t haul the old tank to the dump.
Gas
Needs a proper vent. If the flue is damaged, undersized, or dumped in a way it shouldn’t be, that’s not the $1,500 job. The wide photo usually shows us.
Electric
Needs a working 240-volt circuit at the tank. If you’re converting from gas, or the breaker isn’t there, that’s extra — we’ll say so from the photos.

Shut the water, set the new tank, hook it up, fire it, haul the old one.

Most direct swaps are done the same visit — typically a couple of hours.
Warranty
Every tank we install includes the manufacturer’s parts warranty — 6 to 12 years depending on the unit — covering factory flaws and defects. If a connection we made leaks, we come back and make it right.
It’s leaking right now
- 1. Shut the cold-water valve on top of the tank.
- 2. Gas: turn the gas off at the tank. Electric: flip the breaker.
- 3. Put a pan or towels under it. Don’t drain it unless you have to.
- 4. Send the two photos or call. We’ll tell you when we can be there.
Get a quote from two photos
Close-up of the label on your current tank, and a wide shot of the tank plus the pipes going into it. That’s usually enough to confirm the job and send a quote — no visit required to start.
40-gallon vs 50
A 40 is plenty for most homes that already had a 40. If you run out of hot water during back-to-back showers, or you’ve got a bigger household, we’ll quote a 50. Don’t pay for size you don’t need.
Day of the install
Someone home, a clear path to the tank, pets put up. Water will be off while we swap it. When we’re done, the new tank is running and the old one is in our truck. Pay when it’s working.
When the price may change
$1,500 is a straightforward 40-gallon swap. We’ll tell you before we start if any of this applies:
- · Moving the tank to a new location
- · Stepping up to a 50-gallon or larger
- · Venting, drip pan, or expansion tank if the house needs it
- · New 240-volt circuit or gas line work
- · Permit or code upgrades the city requires
Tankless is a different job. Ask if that’s what you want — it isn’t this page.
Common questions
Is $1,500 the final price?
That’s the starting price for a straightforward 40-gallon gas or electric swap in the same spot, including haul-away. If the photos show extra work, we tell you before we start — not after the tank is on the floor.
Gas or electric — does it change the price?
Not for a direct replacement. Gas needs a proper vent. Electric needs a working 240-volt circuit at the tank. If either of those is missing or wrong, that’s a different quote.
Can I get a 50-gallon for the same money?
No. The $1,500 job is a 40-gallon. If you already run out of hot water with a 40, we’ll quote a 50. Don’t guess — the label photo tells us what you have now.
What about tankless?
This page is a tank-for-tank swap. Tankless is a different job and a different quote. Call if that’s what you want.
How soon can you come?

Do you pull a permit?
A same-for-same swap often doesn’t need one, but cities differ. If yours does, we tell you up front. It isn’t buried in the $1,500.
